The performance of children in school depends on many factors. One of the most important is providing the children with the right type of foundation in the early years. The calls for turning some playtime into an effective learning process.
First Step is one such school in BTM Layout, 2nd stage, that strives to enhance the development of children in all ways possible. Sending a child to a big educational institution straight away may confuse or intimidate the child, and in the process, impair th his confidence. But having an intermediary like First Step, where the child can be prepared for learning is a good idea.
Started by Mrs.Champa Ashok in 1998, First Step is the most preferred choice for parents in the vicinity. Champa worked with Happy World Company, which brought out books for children before starting the school. Through workshops held there, she acquired many useful ideas and has implemented them successfully in her school.
First Step is one of the few schools that make maximum use of the potential of three and four-year olds to learn. There are plenty of toys here that try to enhance the manual deterity of children. Stringing beads, sewing on a perforated cardboard using shoe-laces, kneading dough, all these and other activities keep the children happily occupied.
Learning through fun is something that is done here on a regular basis. Story-telling sessions, sometimes with the use of puppets, capture the children's attention, and it is one activity they look forward to eagerly. Children are also introduced to the joys of painting, as they dable in finger painting, spray painting, and other activities that give them a lot of satisfactions.
As for academics, the school has an unofficial system of three levels. Children in each level are taught by well-trained and dedicated teachers. A child of three to four year's age would be in level three. And to the surprise of many people, children in level three can converse pretty well in English, can recite and to a certain extent even write the spellings three letter words.
This school is ideal for parents who want to give their children a head start in life. Children come in, crying, clinging to their mothers but leave with confidence to face the big world of a regular schools, new teachers, and new friends.
